Local Muralist Liz Flores Visits Seniors to Talk Art and Offer a Special Giveaway

At the end of August, a special artists talk took place as seniors from Chicago Housing Authority’s Las Americas and Caroline Hedger Apartments gathered in the Living Room at the National Public Housing Museum.

Liz Flores, a local muralist whose work can be seen all over Chicago, made a special visit to talk about her approach to painting murals. She was interviewed by Lisa Yun Lee, the director of the museum. Liz was also recently commissioned to transfer one of her designs onto specially created tapestries to give away as gifts, and for local retail shops where art can be purchased.

The seniors who attended were able to meet with her, hear about her process and what inspires her to create, as well as the healing power of art. Following a guided tour of the historic apartments at the National Public Housing Museum, those in the audience then were given one of the beautiful, colorful tapestries to take home. These tapestries can serve as a wall hanging to brighten any room, or even as a soft blanket to toss on the couch.

We are so appreciative when an artist can visit and share their gifts with our community. Thanks, Liz for coming and doing all that you do!
