Featuring

PHENOM Universal born Teh’Ray Hale, learned to rhyme at the age of 13 in the back streets of Chicago, Illinois. Unafraid to join in on the ciphers and emcee battling, PHENOM instantly loved connecting clairvoyant lyrics and hurling potent metaphors quickly taking his opponents to school. Influenced by legendary artists like Rakim, Nas, Common, Black Thought of the Legendary Roots, & Bob Marley; PHENOM ignites audiences with a fire of a stage presence of something never before heard in HIP-HOP. He is the founder and CEO of the award-winning POETREE Chicago (People’s Organized Entertainment Teaching Righteous Education Everywhere), co-founder of L.Y.R.I.C, (Let Your Rhymes Inspire Creativity) with national poet K-Love and a main member of HIP-HOP DETOXX. PHENOM has also hosted major events such as Ritual Sundays, Neo Soul Explosion, and Lyricist Loft, and has mentored thousands of youth throughout the US.

The Magic of Walter King Jr. aka “The Spellbinder” is the 1st African American Illusionist to perform in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Born and raised on the Westside of Chicago, Walter is a self-taught illusionist/magician and is the 1st to combine multi-disciplines of Hip-Hop dance, music, and theater with the visual art of illusion and magic. His most popular illusion is floating a woman in mid-air. King, an award-winning illusionist, has performed for nearly 4 decades throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. During the late 2000s, he was named as one of the “Great Performers of Illinois” by the IAC (Illinois Arts Council.)

Kuumba Lynx (KL) uses Hip Hop art and culture to cultivate strong communities built on a foundation of love. KL engages in collective arts based healing for reimagining and practicing a more just world.

  • The Kuumba Lynx Poetry Making Playground Pop Up is an immersive playground full of multi sensory poetic play and joyful experiences for all ages. Curated by Kuumba Lynx and conceived by a collective of creatives, critical instigators, designers, poets, and those working at the intersection of Hip Hop and liberation, the series invites people of all ages to tap into our radical imaginations. This special pop up curated specifically for Groundwaves Generations will include activities catered to children (ages 3-9), offering fun and easy poetry making games and playground staples like jump rope, hop scotch, bubbles, Hoola Hoops, Skip ball toys, and more!
